Today we celebrate a victory for the forces of free expression and art. Specifically, as these forces pertain to the continued gyration of Rick Springfield’s perfectly toned rockstar butt.
Let’s recap A**gate, briefly: it all started on a perfect summer day on Aug. 28, 2004, at the New York State Fair. Vicki Calcagno, then 34, was attending a Rick Springfield concert. When the ’80s star ventured into the crowd he struck Calcagno with his presumably iron-clad buttocks and left her permanently injured. She sued, he fought the lawsuit.

Finally, almost 12 years later, a verdict has been reached: case dismissed. In an interview with 100.3 Jack FM in Dallas (a CBS Radio station), he talks about the trial, saying he didn’t want to “throw money away” on a potential settlement.
He added, carrying the torch for butt-shaking musicians everywhere: “It was a very important case…for basically every touring artist…A**gate is over.”
